Our "Pastor"

In July, 2011, through the vision and hard work of some amazing people, Sacred Journeys Spiritual Community was born and I was ordained as their pastor. After serving for 14 years as  a United Methodist pastor, this was a welcome change from "organized religion" and a unique opportunity to help create a sacred space where seeking the Divine takes precedence over following the rules or living out church doctrine.

I’ve never been very good at fitting into religious boxes.  I don’t like robes or pulpits or throne-like chairs up on the chancel.  Oh, and I prefer to be called “Kaye”, I’m not very good at titles either. Simply put, I am a human being with a passion for spirituality, a love of God, a desire to help others grow spiritually, and the education to do it.  If you’re curious, I have a Master’s of Divinity degree from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Marquette University.  I also spent an enlightening four years teaching “Understandings of Religion,” “Christian Spirituality” and “Spirit, God and Women” at Carthage College in Kenosha.

As a spiritual leader, I see my role as one of sharing my experiences, my theology, my struggles, and my relationship with the divine so that hopefully you can make connections to your own life, and grow in your own understanding and relationship with Sacred Presence.  I don’t tout one right way to know God, but believe that each person has a unique relationship with the Divine.  In addition, I believe that our spirituality can be enriched by different faith traditions and different spiritual practices.  My deepest hope is simply that we can continue to learn and grow together.
