Keeping Our Center ~ Day 94

Theologian and pastor, Thomas Troeger tells the story of washing his hands in a restroom in a small airport when he noticed it was the most immaculate public restroom he had ever used. The floors were as clean as hospital floors. Out of the corner of his eye he caught sight of the janitor polishing one of the mirrors, eyeing his work to make sure it was perfect. When he came face to face with the janitor, he blurted out, “Thank you so much for the way you clean this place. I have never seen such a clean rest room.”

The man looked at him with tears springing to his eyes, and said, “Thank you for noticing. No one has ever thanked me in all the years I have worked here.”

It seems a little thing, but every time I walk into Pick ‘n Save I thank the employee whose sole job for the day is to clean off the cart handles with disinfectant. It must be the most boring, thankless job and I can’t imagine doing it for eight hours straight. So, I thank them for helping to keep everyone a bit safer.

Saying “thank you” doesn’t take much, and it goes such a long way in boosting people’s spirits and sense of self-worth. Too often the people closest to us are the most taken for granted. So, remember to thank the people in your family! Thank your partner, your children, your parents for all the little things they do for you, for the house, for your family.

And, while you’re at it, remember to thank the Essence of All That Is for life, for this day, for another chance to grow, for sunlight and rain, for food, shelter, rest, work, friends… for all of it.

From my heart to yours… thank you for being you and continuing to share these days with me.

Love & Light!
