Keeping Our Center ~ Day 65

When I was younger, and especially when I had kids to get ready for school, I tended to hit the ground running as soon as I was out of bed. Now that I’m a tad bit older I have the blessing of being able to ease into the day a little more. I can have a cup of tea and a cookie while I send these reflections to you. I can take a deep breath and be still for a few moments, simply pausing in gratitude for another day.

How did you start your day? Did you jump straight into the news (not a terribly uplifting way to start off a day)? Did you open up Facebook to check the latest posts? Or have you told someone you loved them? Or checked in with God?

When my daughter was five she said, “Everyone has a heart because that is how God talks to us.” That being the case (and I believe it is in some way shape or form that I can’t fully understand), it truly makes sense to check in first thing in the morning, to get centered, so that the things of the day flow out of a place deeper than ourselves, CNN or Facebook.

I’m sure some of you are really good at this already, and I commend you. For the rest of us, I wonder how it would change our days if we began each morning with just a minute or two or ten with God? I invite each of us to pause for just a bit, whether it is lying in bed after we’ve hit the snooze button, soaking up a hot shower, or sitting with that first cup of coffee. Within that pause take a deep breath, give thanks for being alive, feel the joy and blessing of your moment of stillness, send love and light to those you are missing and concerned about, and just be for a few heartbeats.

I personally think these few moments could make a difference for the whole day.

Love & Light!
