Keeping Our Center ~ Day 55

I don’t know why our house gets so dusty, but it does. And it is really hard to motivate to clean when no one can come over anyway. Still, I have some standards and was running a cloth over some of the surfaces last week when Julie looked at me and said, “Oh, you’re cheater dusting.” Yep. Deal with it. I wasn’t in the mood to take everything off every surface. And if there is a runner on the table it isn’t dusty under the runner anyway, right? It was the least I could do.

I think we use that phrase fairly often, “Well, it’s the least I can do.” How come we don’t do the best we can do? Why do we send a card instead of going to the funeral? Why do we determine how little we can get away with spending for a wedding or birthday? What’s the least I can give to that charity and still get an umbrella? What’s the least I need to get on that final to get an A in the class? What’s the least I can do and still call myself spiritual or religious? I’ve seen wall plates and outlet plates painted over instead of people taking the time to remove them before repainting a room. Oh, the list could go on and on.

Is it sheer laziness? Lack of time? Lack of caring? It seems to me we should strive to do our best in all things, especially when it comes to showing our love and care of other people, as well as ourselves.

I don’t claim to be perfect. And obviously my dusting integrity needs work. But this concept is in my consciousness now, which means I actually have to think about it. And it’s in yours now, too! How will we act in the future? Will we do the least we can do, or the best?

Love & Light!
