Keeping Our Center ~ Day 5

In my defense, my calendar was wrong! Apparently my calendar company didn’t get the memo that the Vernal Equinox was yesterday, not today. The spring and fall equinoxes are the two days of the year when the amount of daylight and darkness are most equal. Maybe it’s because I’m a Libra, but I really like the balance of those days, especially right now when so much in the world, and in our lives, feels out of balance.

Although, maybe that’s not fair. I’m not convinced our society does balance well on a regular basis, it’s just that now things are exacerbated. And, have you noticed what happens when we’re out of balance? We tend to more (or less), sleep more (or less), work harder, drink harder, engage in retail therapy, cry more, worry more, snap more... I bet you could add to the list. By and large what happens when we’re out of balance is unhealthy, for ourselves and often those around us.

Balance is good for our souls. It may look a bit different for each of us, but I think it feels relatively the same. For me, balance feels like sitting in the center of the merry-go-round; the world can spin crazily around me, but I’m not being tossed about along with everything else. Balance feels grounded. Aware, but not over-reacting. Balance feels like I’m caring for all aspects of my life: work, play, rest, exercise, stillness, time alone, time with others, and time for God, creativity, productive time and down time. This may not all happen in one day, but in general feels balanced as the days go by. I hope this makes sense for you.

So, my questions of the day are: what does balance look like for you? How balanced do you feel right now? And are there one or two things you could do to feel more balanced?
