Keeping Our Center ~ Day 43

I think 2020 at our house will be known as The Year of the Puzzles. We just finished our 15th puzzle (most were 1,000 pieces) since the beginning of the year. It’s kept us out of trouble (somewhat) and been something we can do together in the cold, blustery evenings. Most winters we only do two or three. We especially love puzzles that come with a larger poster-type picture of what the puzzle looks like so it is easier for aging eyes to spot where those weird looking pieces actually go.

Rachel Remen, in her book Kitchen Table Wisdom, talks about the Puzzle Table her father gave to her mother as a birthday present one year. All through her childhood her parents kept a puzzle going on that table, but her father always hid the box top! I suggested this to Julie once, but her response isn’t exactly fit for public consumption.

Truly, life seems to be more like putting together the pieces of a puzzle without knowing what it’s supposed to be, than having a nice big picture to follow! We take life one piece at a time, the bright colorful ones, and the darker, gloomier ones, and the ones that don’t look like they go to our puzzle at all, and we do our best to fit it into the whole of our lives. It’s usually not until much later that we see the picture the pieces make when seen as a whole. It’s only then that we can truly appreciate the importance and profound meaning of each piece.

What we’re going through now will be more pieces in our puzzles, but it won’t be the whole puzzle.

Love & Light!
