Keeping Our Center ~ Day 41

Benedictine monk, Brother David Steindl-Rast has said, “Silence is the opportunity to let yourself down into mystery – to let yourself be touched by mystery. It is like the joy of music, only a thousand times deeper and greater.”

Even though we are all isolating, I still have two people (and a dog) in the house with me. Perhaps this is why I still appreciate silence. I imagine if I were alone, it might get tiring or even depressing. But for now, when I can stop and appreciate it, silence still feels like a warm, cozy blanket wrapped around me that takes me deep into myself and the Divine. Silence holds sacred space for all that I am thinking and feeling, offering time and space to step back and truly see and hear what my unvarnished soul might have to say about things. In this way silence isn’t emptiness or loneliness, but instead is a precious friend filled with awareness and insight. Eternal Silence sings my song back to me that I might find my True Self again and be free.

Silence is not something to fear, but something to seek out and to cherish. Today, may we all listen for what the Spirit of the Silence has to say to our hearts.

Love & Light!
