Keeping Our Center ~ Day 17

Twenty-four years ago today I gave birth to my second son, Samuel. I was in seminary and hoping he’d come a little earlier to get me out of mid-term exams! No such luck. Actually, I was hoping he’d arrive any day BUT April Fools’ Day. The joke was on me.  You see, for some strange reason I was worried his life would be plagued with bad jokes about his birthday… gratefully it hasn’t ever really been an issue.

It probably shouldn’t have bothered me at all because humor is one of the greatest gifts of being human. A good laugh is good for the soul and good for our physical well-being. Of all the people I interact with, I have the hardest time with people who have no sense of humor, who barely ever crack a smile. Frankly, I feel sort of bad for them. What a sad way to live, never to feel the levity of laughter or to laugh until you cry at something completely ridiculous. Can you remember the last time you did that? Those are holy moments!

I’m so very thankful that we have a spiritual community who is willing to laugh with me and at me (when appropriate)!

I know these are serious times, but we need to maintain some sense of humor to get through them. So, tell a joke today. Or play an April Fools’ joke. Smile. Laugh. Let the Spirit play in you by doing so.

Love & Light!
