Keeping Our Center ~ Day 12

Good Morning!

Julie, Stitch (our nut-job of a dog) and I have typically been getting out and walking twice a day and I’ve been just tickled by the fact that four houses in the neighborhood have friendly, encouraging chalk messages at the ends of their driveways. One says, “Hi Neighbor! Enjoy the day!” Another says, “Be of good cheer! Wash your hands!” And a third says, “Stay well neighbor!” Plus there are hearts, rainbows and flowers. I think it is awesome!

It’s interesting that forced isolation seems to find many people reaching out in ways they didn’t before. There is much we can’t do under lockdown, but as Mother Teresa said, “We can do small things with great love.” If a chalk message from a child can make me smile and feel cared for by my neighbors, imagine all of the many small things we can do to give people a little pick-me-up. Perhaps this shared suffering will help us remember that we are all connected. Even though we have a six-foot social distancing space between us, perhaps we’ll learn to break down the other barriers that have plagued our world (pun intended) in recent years. This crisis has the potential to unite us in ways other things haven’t... at least that is my hope.

I’ll tell you this... as soon as the rain stops I’m going to be out with my colored chalk writing messages to my neighbors at the end of my driveway!

Love & Light!

Kaye
