Keeping Our Center ~ Day 113

Once we’ve asked the question, “God, what do you want of me?” then it seems like the next steps would be to listen for an answer, and be willing to respond (or you may as well not have asked in the first place.)

When we think of listening we think of hearing with our ears, but I haven’t found that to typically be the case with the Spirit. I heard my call to ministry 27 years ago in words, but I “heard” it within me, perhaps within my heart. It’s sort of hard to explain. That hasn’t happened to me but a handful of times. More often I have “listened” to the Spirit by watching for messages around me, or by paying attention to my intuition.

When I was deciding about coming out and leaving the United Methodist Church, I implored God constantly to help me know what to do. One day I spent the night with a friend (also clergy) where we spent much time talking about my situation and what I should do. When we got in her car in the garage the next morning, there was a small snake skin lying on the passenger side windshield. It was simply amazing. I knew that the snake is a symbol of the Divine Feminine, and it was also a clear message about shedding an old skin that didn’t fit anymore. Of course, I kept questioning and struggling for a while anyways.

All I can suggest is to open your mind and heart and pay attention. If a person comes to mind out of the blue… contact them! If you feel compelled to go somewhere or try something… do it. Learn to know yourself well enough to know when it is your intuition speaking, or whether you have indigestion or you’re projecting or making something up!

There is nothing quite like the feeling of working with the Universe as we walk through our days.

Love & Light!
